A Quarter Century of Porsche 911 GT3

Since 1963, the Porsche 911 has been synonymous with advanced German engineering, a timeless silhouette, and, according to Porsche enthusiasts, one of the purest driving experiences of any sports car. And there aren’t many variants or high-performance trims of iconic sports cars like the 911 that enjoy almost the same level of adoration as the nameplates they derive from, like the 911 GT3. 

Porsche launched the 911 GT3 in 1999, and since then the Stuttgart-based automaker has consistently pushed the boundaries of road-going sports car performance. All the knowledge Porsche has gathered from a decades-long successful motorsport heritage has been applied to each iteration of the 911 GT3. While others have attempted to emulate the GT3’s sweet spot of design and race-bred performance, the 911 GT3 remains in a class of its own.
