Some great work by one of our colleagues who managed to put together the chassis numbers for all the Porsche 917s.

917-005 | It was the chassis with which the 917 debuted in the World Championship of Brands. With the Nº30 and in the hands of Mitter-Schutz he appeared at Spa 1969 and left. 917-006 | He was a muletto at Le Mans 1969 with No. 15. When Wyer was hired, he rehearsed with him at Zeltweg in the hands of Ahrens-Courage-Kinnunen and Redman. On this car, Wyer's technicians (Horsmann and Cuoghi among others) made the modifications that would give rise to the Short Tail (K) at the end of 1969. He never officially participated in any competition. It served as the basis for the construction of the 040, the first Long Tail (LH). 917-007 | In 1969 he raced at Le Mans with the No. 14 in the hands of Stommelen-Ahrens. They dropped out. By 1970 it was sold to Gesipa Team and transformed into K3. It participated in numerous Interseries competitions during 1970 and 1971 obtaining two triumphs in the hands of Neuhaus. In 1971 he was turned into a Spyder. 917-027 | Chassis used by Porsche AG for testing. It was the one Redman tested at the Zeltweg trials in late 1969 when Wyer took over the Porsche team. It is said that Redman with this Spyder lowered the lap time that they had been doing with the conventional 917s by 4 seconds, and this was what led Horsmann to deduce that the 917 had aerodynamic problems and not the chassis.
