The Porsche 930 Turbo might not be as valuable or coveted as the early Porsche 911, but recently a special Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose got some much-needed attention. This rare Slantnose was given a dry ice cleaning to prepare it to be sold again.
Although the popularity of the Slantnose pales in comparison with the early 911s, it is a rare and valuable classic car in its own right. Its main features are the pop-up headlights and the flat nose which are not quite popular with 911 fans, but those features are what sets itself apart from the Porsches from that era. During its time, the Slantnose was actually more expensive. Porsche only produced 948 units of the model, and most sources even claim that only 160 units of those 948 were shipped to the US.
The main reason that it is a bit more expensive than the typical 930 is that each Flachbau front end was handcrafted by remodeling the front fenders. That bit of design upgrade added a premium of up to 60% to the 930 Turbo at the time.
The Flachbau was first introduced back in the early 1980s. Kremer Racing started offering conversion kits specifically for the 930 Turbo. It was designed in a way that the front fascia of the car would be similar to the famous 935 race car. After TAG Heuer co-owner Mansour Ojjeh commissioned Porsche to make a 935 that was road-legal, it wasn’t long before the production car was introduced.
It is already a given that the 930 Slantnose is a rare classic, but this example is a bit more special because of its history, specifically its previous owner. The limited run German sports car was previously owned by “Friends” superstar Matt LeBlanc who played the beloved Joey Tribbiani in the NBC hit series. It should also be noted that LeBlanc actually had a hard time selling the Porsche as it took him a few years to actually complete the sale. Back in 2019, the actor opened up on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he was having a hard time finding a new owner for his Porsche 930 Slantnose. He offered the example in two different auction events, but it was not sold. It is not known why the two auctions failed.
The good news is that he was finally able to buy a buyer for the example. This new owner tapped on the expertise of “I AM Detailing” to give it a dry ice treatment for its engine bay and chassis. A new layer of Cosmoline was also added extra protection against rust. Overall, however, the 930 Slantnose example is pretty much in great condition.
It won’t be a surprise if the 930 Slantnose becomes a lot more valuable in the future.
