Singer Vehicle Design is driven by the singular vision of Rob Dickinson, an ex-car designer and rock musician who came to be one of the world’s foremost distillers of the essence of air-cooled Porsche. Rob’s lifelong obsession with the most important sports car on the planet began on an autoroute in France in the ’70s and now finds a home on the concours lawns and racetracks of the world’s most prestigious automotive events.
Some call them the best air-cooled Porsches ever, others the best cars in the world. They are Porsche 911 sports cars that have been restored, reimagined, and reborn by Singer Vehicle Design. Each commission represents a unique collaboration between the customer and Singer, combining bespoke carbon fiber body panels, the finest in optimized mechanical and electrical components, superlative materials and finishes, and the spirit of the golden age of the iconic air-cooled 911. Every Singer-restored car is an incomparable work of impeccable craftsmanship.
One of Singer’s Porsche 911 restomod is now available on Bring A Trailer. This particular model, named the “San Diego Commission,” features a well-thought-out specification. It is powered by a Cosworth-developed 3.8-liter flat-six engine, driving the rear wheels through a close-ratio six-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential. The naturally aspirated air-cooled flat-six, developed by Cosworth and built by Jae Lee of Mirage International in San Diego, boasts a displacement of 3.8 liters and delivers 360 horsepower according to Singer. This engine strikes a balance between a high-revving, high-horsepower Porsche racing engine and a roadworthy, torque-rich, and durable powerplant.
The car is finished in blue with pale blue side stripes and red “Porsche” lettering on the sides and decklid, complemented by Fuchs-style wheels with matching brake calipers. It’s equipped with Singer’s larger-size steel Brembo brakes, Ohlins adjustable suspension, and desirable options like an external fuel filler cap in the hood center, an external oil filler cap on the right-rear quarter panel, a gold-color Singer badge atop red “reimagined” lettering, a retractable rear spoiler with a tinted acrylic screen beneath the grille, bi-xenon headlights, polycarbonate front lenses, bullet-style side mirrors, and nickel-plated brightwork.
Inside, the cabin is adorned with red leather featuring leather-weave inserts and brass ventilation grommets on the four-way adjustable Recaro front sport seats and rear seats. Woven leather covers the door panels, rear side panels, and rear bulkhead. Additional options include a black leather-trimmed MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, a red leather-trimmed padded roll bar with white stitching, a harness bar behind the rear seatbacks, red square-weave floor mats, drilled footboards and pedals, and red quilted leather front compartment trim with white stitching. The car offers amenities like air conditioning, a Becker radio with iPod connectivity, and a Parrot Asteroid tablet mounted under the dash.
Singer’s Porsche 911 restomods are highly prized vehicles, often enjoyed by their fortunate owners. This San Diego commission model, with less than 10k miles on the odometer, presents a rare opportunity to own one of these exceptional creations, especially one with such a well-thought specification.
