Current Porsche Taycan 4S – Ultimate Guide
The Porsche Taycan was revealed in September. Porsche officially showed off the Turbo and Turbo S. Now it has taken the covers off a lower-grade Taycan, the 4S. The Taycan 4S is the more affordable version of the four-door electric car, but it still offers impressive performance and a high price tag. However, this isn’t really a surprise. We’d expect no less from Porsche, and we also expect Porsche to have no trouble selling these innovative models.
Key Specifications
The Taycan 4s keeps the same body style as the other Taycans. It features a pair of electric motors that enable all-wheel drive. The car gets a two-speed transmission at the rear axle and a single-speed at the front. There will be two levels of the car. The base-level will get a 79.2-kilowatt-hour battery. That battery combined with the motors makes 429 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. Use the overboost function and you get 522.
The Performance Battery Plus version of the car features a 93.4-kilowatt-hour battery. This battery with the motors makes the car good for 482 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Again, you can use the overboost function and get an even stronger 563 hp out of the car.
The 0-60 mph for both versions of the car is 3.8 seconds. The top speed for the cars will be 155 mph, according to Porsche. In terms of range, the company hasn’t yet released the numbers for the vehicle. These numbers should come out before the car goes on sale.
In addition to all the electrified juicy details above, the Taycan 4S also gets the Porsche 4D adaptive chassis, three-chamber air suspension, steel brake rotors, and some red calipers.
The Exterior
The exterior of the Taycan 4S isn’t all that different than the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S, when you first look at it. However, Porsche has made some changes, including adding 19-inch Taycan S Aero wheels, the red brake calipers mentioned above, a different front apron, side sills, and rear diffuser.
The car also gets different headlights. According to Porsche, the car gets LED lights including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus. That lighting system is offered as standard equipment.
Overall, the changes to the model’s exterior has softened its looks a little bit. This could turn out to be a good move for Porsche as it tries to appeal to a wide audience with this car.
The Interior
Just because the Taycan 4S is the less expensive version of the car, doesn’t mean it misses out on any of the luxuries. The car features a partial-leather interior, eight-way front seats, keyless entry, and ambient interior lighting. The car can be had with a no-leather interior if you wish.
Otherwise, the car’s interior is more or less the same as the Turbo and Turbo S. It features all the same screens, layout and controls. The car’s interior is one of the better-looking out there with several screens in a unique and almost Porsche 911-like layout.
The Price
The Porsche Taycan 4S isn’t some car you’ll trade in your Honda on, but it is more affordable than the Turbo and Turbo S models. The company set the car’s price tag at $103,800 for the base-level car. For the 4S with the Performance Battery Plus option, you’re looking at $110,380.
Despite that still being in the six-figure area, that’s actually a very noticeable drop from the $150,900 base price of the Taycan Turbo. It’s also a serious drop from the Taycan Turbo S’s price of $185,000. With the 4S being over $80,000 cheaper than the top dog, we’d expect plenty of people to jump on it.
The main competitor to the Taycan is the Tesla Model S. The Porsche is more expensive than the Tesla. The Model S Performance comes with a price of $99,990, so it’s not a night and day difference, but that is important, and we’d expect Porsche’s range for the 4S to be the deciding factor for many potential buyers.
